The Romanian mezzo-soprano Cristina Damian was born in Alba Iulia. She studied singing at the Cluj-Napoca Music Academy and completed her studies from 2003 to 2004 through a Master's degree. The repertoire of the mezzo-soprano includes works by Mozart's work such as Dorabella ( "Così fan tutte"), Cherubino ( "Le Nozze di Figaro") and Zerlina ( "Don Giovanni"), but also from Italian operas like Fenena in Verdi's Nabucco "Maddalena in Rigoletto, or Rosina in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia. ElizaDoolittle from Frederick Loewes' s "My Fair Lady" also belongs to it.
Between 2008-2015 the singer was an ensemble member of the Hamburg State Opera. In 2010, she was awarded the Dr. Wilhelm Oberdörffer Prize of the Foundation for the Promotion of the Hamburg State Opera. She sang Carmen, Rosina ( "Il Barbiere di Siviglia"), Dorabella ( "Così fan tutte"), Cherubino ( "Le Nozze di Figaro"), Meg Page ( "Falstaff"). She also appeared as Olga in Eugene Onegin, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Donna Elvira in a new production of Don Giovanni, Waltraute and 2. Norn, Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos), Brigitta (Die Tote Stadt). From 2016 she is a free-lance artist collaborating with Staatsoper Berlin, Staatsoper Hamburg, Teatro Comunale Trieste, the Cluj-Napoca (Romania) Opera and the Philharmonic. She worked with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Simone Young, Donato Renzetti, Stefan Soltesz, Lawrence Foster, Alfred Eschwe, Alexander Joel, Christian Arming, etc.
